About CAPS:
The Chedoke Amputee Peer Support Group was initiated in September, 1997. Aware that there was no amputee support group
in the Hamilton area, a group of amps, along with social worker Cass Watson of Chedoke Hospital, decided a support group was
long overdue.
Over the years, CAPS have created a hospital visitation program, volunteered its services to the students and staff of
the Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences at McMaster University and maintained a monthly newsletter.
Our mission is to provide support, outreach and empowerment to the amputee.
As amputees, we know that you, your family and friends need ongoing support as you adjust to your limb loss.
We supply support through social activities, meetings twice monthly, guest speakers and a monthly newsletter.
One of our goals is also to reach out into the community and help educate people about amputation.
We work to help provide amputees with the necessary information to make them informed consumers.
